May 7, Chefchaouen, Morocco.
The riad arranged a young man to escort us to the taxi point at the medina, where we take taxi to the bus station. The bus departed at 8am, and to our surprise, was not full.
The journey was about 6 hours, and the road was hilly with many turnings. It triggers motion sickness easily. We contacted the riad at Chefchaouen for a pick up service. The taxi driver talked to the riad guy but finally he did not drop us off at the right place, we think as he had another customer on the same taxi going to another place (common practice in Morocco). We did not know how the right place should look like and just got off. We spent some time to reach the riad guy, and he was so angry at the taxi driver. He kind of put a f face in front of us for that, and we felt totally innocent.
The town was a cute blue town, not as blue as expected though. It was not time for check-in yet so we headed to the square for lunch. The people greeted us again with konichiwa and ni hao, like how they all did in Marrakech and Fes. People at the shops were not pushy, which is great. We had some nice tagine, salad and omelette at the restaurant by the square. Took a quick walk at the shops and then we made our way back to the riad.
The riad was on the hill top of the old area so we made all the way up again. The room was a bit smaller than we have expected. We couldn’t open our luggages. They don’t even have air con in the room. To be honest, we were disappointed. Anyway, after some quick wash up, we went back to the town for photo taking and touring around.
We took some nice pictures, and bought some good stuff. There were quite a lot of tourists taking photos at popular spots so we finally got to a hidden spot where we could really take our time and work out the photos. We passed at one of the popular spots with blue background and colorful pots. We wanted to take a picture of it, and some young local guys requested 5Dh for that. I think the locals are starting to have this kind of tricks to get money from tourists, which is absolutely something we don’t want to see.
After getting dinner at another diner, and doing some final shopping, we headed back to the riad and looked at the sunset. Before calling it a day, we consulted the riad staff on how to get to taxi the next morning and he also requested for payment of the room. As he calculated the price and did currency conversion on Google, we unintentionally noticed his browsing histories, animated, of porn sites. This really grossed us off.
